South American Delegation Explores Finland and Sweden’s Leadership in Wood Construction
A delegation of South American architects and construction professionals will travel to Finland and Sweden from May 10-17, 2025, to explore innovations in wood construction.

Finland & Sweden: Pioneers in Sustainable Wood Construction
Major investors are increasingly choosing wood as a sustainable and high-quality construction material. Finland and Sweden have successfully integrated wood in corporate buildings, public infrastructure, schools, libraries, and even bridges, making them global models for sustainability.

Impact of the 2024 Visit
🔹A delegation of 20 Chilean professionals visited Finland and Sweden to explore wood construction innovations. All participants 100% rated the visit as a success, confirming that the trip fully achieved its goals.
🔹 New projects and collaborations emerged, including:
Ignacio Hernández (Archiplan) – Inspired to develop a CLT-based school project in Iquique in partnership with Finnish Lahdelma & Mahlamäki Architects.
Sergio Meléndez (Bahía Mágica Inmobiliaria) – Inspired to construct hundreds of wooden homes in Playa Blanca, Tongoy.
Pablo Larraín (Blarquitectos) – Integrated thermally treated wood in multiple projects.
Diego Arroyo (Lira Arquitectos) – Applied Nordic wood design principles in three housing developments using timber frame, prefabrication, and hybrid structures
